Using quality pastels allows you to create wonderful, colorful paintings. We will paint with them to create 16×20-inch paintings of the subject, similar to the pastel pictured. Bring soft pastels and pastel supplies if you have them. If you are a beginner, some general supplies are available. Also bring a lunch as well as related photos of moving streams, or waterfalls for the particular subject of the day. Fee: $30.00 each. Attend one session or all. Register by Friday, September 1.

“SHRINRIN-YOKU” (Forest Bathing)

9:00-11:30 a.m. Presenter: Pat Pintens If you like walking slowly, touching, looking and listening, discovering and wondering, you will like the Japanese approach to being in a forest called “Shinrin-Yoku,” in English “Forest Bathing.” We will meet at Marywood and proceed to the Fallison Lake trail. IONS: SCIENCE AND SPIRITUALITY

IONS (Institute of Noetic Sciences) is an international group founded in 1973 by Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell. Noetic comes from the Greek, “noesis/noetikos” meaning inner/intuitive knowing. The gathering explores scientific findings with wisdom traditions to expand our understanding of consciousness and questions such as “who am I” and “who are we.” All are welcome to one or more meetings. Next gatherings will be October 5, November 2 and December 7. Suggested offering $10.00.

GOD’S PRESENCE IN The Mystical POETRY OF JESSICA POWERS

Poet Jessica Powers, a Carmelite nun, found God in each of these, but most especially in the human soul. Her poetry invites you to do the same. Suggested offering $10.00. LISTENING OURSELVES INTO LIFE

Together we will explore how listening shapes our relationships with God and with each other in our various faith communities. Various aspects of our listening will examine how it actively reflects the heart of God engaged with us and us with God. Listening will be explored also as a sacred form of hospitality in our relationships with the troubled, the sick and the dying in our families and beyond. Suggested offering $20.00. OUT OF DARKNESS & RUBBLE

What messages flow from rubble? Why do we observe the feast of the Holy Cross and Our Lady of Sorrows today? Where is God in the mess? What is evident in the darkness that one cannot see in the light? How does one pray in darkness? Let us together examine such questions. Suggested offering $10.00. DAY OF SELF AND SPIRITUAL RENEWAL

Join us for a day of self-care and spiritual rejuvenation! On this mini-retreat day, we’ll meditate, experience gentle exercise, enjoy a vegetarian lunch, have time for private reflection, and savor some pampering from the staff of Fern & Folk Spa & Shop. MOTHER TERESA: COME BE MY LIGHT

Mother Teresa of Calcutta’s private writings in “Come Be My Light,” and her extraordinary faith and strength in the face of emptiness, doubt and darkness, will be the focus of our discussion. We will explore how this is truly food for our own journey. The book is not necessary. Please bring a friend and a bag lunch for this four-hour session. PEACEMAKING IN AN AGE OF VIOLENCE

September 21 – Thursday 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon Facilitator: Julia Walsh, FSPA Jesus taught us to love our enemies and “turn the other cheek.” But, how can one be a peacemaker and live nonviolently in these tumultuous times? This workshop will explore the Christian tradition of peacemaking and ways to follow Jesus nonviolently. Suggested donation $15.00. Register by Monday, September 18.

RETREAT: THE SACRED GIFT OF LISTENING

September 22-26, 2017
Friday 5:30 p.m. – Tuesday 1:00 p.m.

The gift of listening is a key to cultivating peace in our relationships and, hence, peace in our world. Besides “listening beyond words,” we will examine ways to be more specific in how we connect and engage with God and with another as gift to the “other.” Each morning includes a presentation and communal prayer. Afternoons will be free for rest and to explore listening. After the evening meal there will be sharing and communal prayer. Spiritual direction will be available if desired as part of the retreat. Fee: $375 residents includes all needs and a private room in a shared lakeside cabin. Include a $100 deposit (refundable if reservation is cancelled by August 20). Commuters $175 (deposit $50). WRITING A SPIRITUAL AUTOBIOGRAPHY

When it comes to reflection on your past experiences and your future dreams, writing can be a practice that offers opportunities for integration and increased awareness. REFLECTIVE FISHING
