Marywood News

November Dawn All Are Welcome

Marywood is open to all people searching for God in their lives. It is our desire that all who want to attend our programs not allow lack of funds to keep them from coming. Marywood welcomes volunteer service in lieu of program donations. Those who have been blessed by God with greater abundance are encouraged to be generous when coming to Marywood. Your generosity helps us to continue the programs you appreciate.

Women of Spirit: Past and Present

Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center is offering a special day for women of the area and beyond, "Women of Spirit: Past and Present" on Thursday, Sept. 11, 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. This day will include reflection on the Great Women of the Scriptures and current women of faith, their legacy and how it provides hope and vision. Who are the women in today’s world that provide support and vision? Come to hear women share their faith journeys. Invite your friends to share this special day for women. Register by Monday, Sept. 8. Suggested donation: $25; bring your lunch. For more information or to register: 715-385-3750 - marywood.center@gmail.com.

Welcome Carl Koch

Carl Koch has been a writing teacher for forty years and a journal keeper for 35 of those. Author of 35 books on adult spiritual growth and on writing, including Journalkeeping: Exploring a Great Spiritual Practice, Carl has also served as a high school and university teacher and administrator, and senior editor for St. Mary’s Press.

He holds master degrees in religious education, spirituality and English, and a doctorate in English from the University of Michigan. He is emeritus director of Ring Lake Ranch, an ecumenical retreat center in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming and retired in 2011. He was the first director of the MA in Servant Leadership Program at Viterbo University (2001-2006) and also the program coordinator at the Franciscan Spirituality Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Carl is now an adjunct staff member at Marywood and will be presenting occasional programs and retreats.

Carl and his wife, Joyce (Marywood staff), live in Minocqua, Wis., and enjoy cooking, singing, kayaking, and playing with their two dogs.

Introducing Joyce Heil

Joyce Heil comes to us with a wealth of educational background and experience to enhance Marywood programming and outreach services. She has been a dear friend of the FSPAs for many years and presently is an Affiliate of the order. She has degrees in theology, higher education, and nursing, and certification as a spiritual director. Her experience as nurse, teacher at Viterbo University, associate director of Ring Lake Ranch in Dubois, WY and retreat coordinator at Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale, AZ -- among other experiences -- will be a gift to Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center.

Joyce has published on her own and has co-authored books with her husband, Carl Koch.

She and Carl are looking forward to being here in the Northwoods. Occasionally, Carl will also be helping out at Marywood, as he is a national presenter of spirituality programs and a prolific author of 35 books. He is also eager to meet and help lend support to the men of the area. Both Joyce and Carl have been joint presenters at other spirituality centers – such as Franciscan Spirituality Center in La Crosse, WI and St. Anthony’s in Marathon, WI. Due to the renovation, Joyce will formally begin in February.

We welcome Joyce and Carl to the Northwoods to be part of the Marywood family!

Spiritual Direction
Spiritual Direction is a ministry of listening and supporting persons in their experience of God's action and presence in his or her life. For more information, visit the website: marywoodsc.com and click on “Spiritual Direction” and/or “Staff.” The certified spiritual directors at Marywood also offer their services via Skype. You can save time and money: No need to drive to Marywood unless you prefer to do so.
