PASTEL: EXPLORING SURFACES
July 6 -Thursday 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

Pastels can be applied to any surface that has a texture to it. We will take landscape as the subject and note the difference it makes on pastel board, soft paper without sizing, spray painted liquitex surface, and watercolor sheet. These different sheets will be provided. Please bring your supply of pastels with you. The paintings will be done on 9 x12-inch format. Fee: $30. Bring a lunch. Register by Thursday, June 29.

PASTEL: CREATING AN INTRIGUING LANDSCAPE

Watch a landscape emerge as you work colorful pastels on a dark back ground. Select from your photos one that has dramatic contrast in color (like a field of bright red poppies set in a series of pastel applications, from dark to medium, to light, the beauty gradually emerges and you have a pastel that rings with color. The black background to work on will be provided. Bring your pastel supplies. Fee: $30. Bring a lunch. Register by Thursday, June 29.

“I asked my garden to speak to me of God and behold it flowered.” Come spend a day in a beautiful flower garden and let it speak to you of God and discover in the words of an ancient proverb that the real gardens and flowers are within. MEDITATIVE NATURE WALK

Meet at the North Lakeland Discovery Center and join their naturalists for a guided nature walk that will help you open your eyes and hearts to the wonders all around. Then, enter into contemplative dialogue about the ways the landscape speaks to your Spirit. Donations accepted.

THE BOOK OF JOY

The Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu have authored a book called the Book of Joy. One of them has survived more than fifty years of exile and the other the soul-crushing violence of oppression. Yet, both of them are joyful and have responses to “how do we find true joy in the midst of inevitable suffering?” Join us as students of their wisdom. PAINT AND SIP: ANGELS ON YOUR CANVAS, ANGELS ALL AROUND

Chaos, darkness and pain: angels are ministering to us through all the elements of our lives. Our prayer and conversation will help us to be aware to how these holy beings are bringing us light and peace in the midst of turmoil. Under the guidance of Earthgoods staff in Minocqua, our creative activity will bring us from blank canvas to our own angel painting. No painting experience necessary. KAYAK AND PRAY

How can paddling become a form of prayer? How can serenely floating in the beautiful Trout Lake connect us to God and others? We will begin on the Marywood shoreline and then do gentle paddling in the bay and beyond–as far as weather and skill permit. It will be a form of prayer beyond words. Kayaks, PFDs and paddles are provided. We will end our time with a picnic and conversation. Bring a sack lunch. Space is limited. Suggested offering $15.00. Register by Friday, July 21.

“TASTE AND SEE THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD” – HERB FRIENDS

Herbs are “friends in the kitchen” and can be used for nearly every dish from meats to seafood, from breads to cooling summer drinks, from seasoned vinegars to flavored butters. Herbs are also “friends of the soul.” Come meet and make some new friends. Suggested offering $10.00. Register by Thursday, July 20.

WATERFALL VOICES

Walkers as well as “limited walkers” are invited to spend time as students of a waterfall, listening to voices of healing, of working to shape Mother Earth, of wisdom, of bountifulness. Listening well, what other voices might we discover? Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for hiking. We will be car-pooling, traveling about two hours away to Bond Falls.
